When you’re running infrared heaters inside chemical cleaning lines, you’re playing a dangerous game. You’ve got flammable vapors and corrosive liquids swirling around everywhere. In that kind of environment, a standard lamp isn’t just a bad choice—it’s a liability. That’s why we build our Ultra High Purity (UHP) lamps with a very specific kind of armor. We need to stop ignition before it starts and keep those nasty chemicals out of the electronics.
How the sealing actually works
We don’t just “wrap” these lamps. We seal them tight. The heating element sits inside a high-purity quartz sleeve, which we then tuck into an explosion-proof jacket that can handle chemical abuse. This creates a wall between the hot surface of the lamp and any flammable solvent vapors floating around. And the ends? We use hermetic seals and specialized gaskets there. It’s the only way to make sure no gas sneaks into the electrical housing.
Dealing with chemical stress
Here’s the thing: most standard seals just melt or eat away when they hit aggressive solvents. That’s a nightmare scenario. If a seal goes, you’re looking at a short circuit or, in the worst case, a total explosion. To stop that, we use materials like PTFE or high-end fluoroelastomers. They don’t flinch when they hit harsh chemicals. Plus, they stay tight even as the lamp heats up and cools down, expanding and contracting over and over again.
Putting them to work
The upside is that you get a heat source that’s isolated and won’t throw a spark. But there’s a trade-off. All that extra protection adds “thermal mass.” In plain English? The lamp takes a bit longer to warm up than a bare bulb would. You’ll want to tweak your PID tuning to account for that lag, otherwise, you might overshoot your target temperature. These lamps are built to take a beating in industrial scrubbers.
