
Why Your Bathroom Heater Actually Dies (And How We Fixed It)
Most people think their infrared heater stops working because the heating element just “burnt out.” But if you actually look at the guts of a broken unit, that’s rarely the case. The real culprit? The seal where the wire meets the tube. Here’s the thing: bathrooms are brutal. You’ve got high heat and thick steam hitting the unit over and over. In a lot of cheap heaters, that seal is just some basic glue or low-grade silicone. It works for a while. But then the heater turns on, the metal expands, the glass shifts, and—snap—a tiny crack forms. Once that happens, moisture creeps in. It turns the insulation into carbon, and before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit. We do things differently. Instead of just “gluing” a wire into a tube, we use a glass-to-metal sealing process. We use high-purity alumina and specialized glass frit so the metal and glass expand and contract at the same rate. It creates a tight, airtight seal that doesn’t crack when things get hot. You’ll notice some brands use those big, clunky rubber boots to cover their connections. Usually, they’re just hiding a bad seal. We don’t need the boots. A proper seal keeps the halogen gas inside where it belongs and keeps oxygen out, which means your filament lasts way longer. Now, there is a catch. Because these seals can handle so much more power in a small space, they put out a lot of concentrated heat right at the connection point. That means your housing has to be up to the task. If you’re using cheap plastics that can’t handle the heat, the seal will hold up perfectly, but your chassis might start to warp. Make sure you’re using heat-resistant metals or high-spec plastics to keep everything looking sharp.
